LIBRARY

The Southern Highlands Christian School Library aims to provide a rich, welcoming environment for all members of our SHCS community. We aim to provide a wealth of resources and include both physical and digital formats. The newly refurbished space includes individual and group study areas, as well as the new amphitheater and board room.

Our resources are carefully selected to encourage enjoyment of reading and lifelong learning, while upholding our School’s distinctively Christian worldview. Students are encouraged to develop increasing levels of discernment in their reading choices as they grow and mature.

SPORT

Set on over 7 acres of land in the beautiful Southern Highlands, SHCS has plenty of outdoor space for all our students! Along with two track size event ovals (one with cricket nets), we also have a basketball court, two tennis courts and a full size gymnasium. Our students enjoy general play, netball, basketball, hockey, tennis, soccer, rugby and other sports during both designated sports times and also during wet weather play. Each class has PE lessons that focus on development of skills, health and fitness and most importantly, fun! All students are encouraged to participate to stay active and healthy for life. We have a variety of students that pursue sports in an extra-curricular capacity as well, and have excellent dancers, ballerinas, gymnasts and equestrians amongst our student cohort.

EXTRA CURRICULAR MUSIC

Music is an area of excellence at Southern Highlands Christian School. Many of our teaching staff are talented musicians who not only assist the established musical groups within the school, but enjoy making music together and with students on a social platform. Easily done, as more than a third of SHCS students learn to master musical instruments.

Our aim at SHCS is not only for our students to excel academically in Music, but also to develop a love of performing and using the gifts God has blessed them with. We have many performance opportunities and have a variety of ensembles for students to be involved in.

These groups rehearse each week and are a great way to be involved in performance:

SHCS Choir (Years 5-12 sing in harmony.) This group rehearses on Tuesday mornings at 8.30am.

SHCS Strings (Our most able string players play challenging works from the great classics to more contemporary chamber music, and is widely regarded as one of the best musical groups in the area.) This group rehearses on Wednesday mornings at 8.30am.

SHCS Orchestra (Year 3-10 play a range of songs including classical, Christian and popular music.) This group rehearses on Thursday mornings at 8.30am.

Our students enjoy playing for school events, at churches, for the community and in music festivals beyond the boundaries of the Southern Highlands. We have participated in a number of great concerts such as Easter, Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day. Tulip Time, Grandparents Day, Thanksgiving Service and the Bowral Family Carols. Our students regularly take part in a number of music festivals and we have talented visiting artists perform at our School.
